Increase in Whole Class Instrumental Tuition for 2018-19

4th September, 2018

We are thrilled that the Music Service has confirmed delivery of Whole Class Instrumental Tuition to all Primary schools within The HEART Education Trust in Norfolk for the 2018-19 academic year. The four Primary Academies (Valley, Henderson Green, Heartsease and Lingwood) all value music highly within their school curriculum and we are delighted to be strengthening our links with them.

The provision of Whole Class Instrumental Tuition (WCIT) contributes to the Department for Education's (DfE) core roles for Music Education Hubs, which states that every child aged 5-18 has the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument through whole-class tuition programmes. In the past year, Norfolk Music Service (the lead organisation of Norfolk Music Hub) has increased its numbers of Whole Class Instrumental Tuition by 75%, which is something well worth celebrating!

Around 120 children in Year 2 across the four schools will benefit from learning with high-quality music teachers from the Music Service from September and will be taught a full range of instruments and musical styles, from samba drumming to world music, ukulele to xylophone. Whole Class Instrumental Tuition is so much more than just playing a musical instrument; within these lessons, children are also taught the basics of musicianship and singing, to develop a well-rounded musical education from the very start.

The Music Service currently delivers WCIT to over 5000 pupils per week in a total of 92 schools!
