Book your RSHE Teaching Skills inset

5th June, 2019

With only three full terms to go before Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education (RSHE) becomes statutory, it’s time to start your school's journey!

The new guidance highlights the importance of ‘high quality, evidence-based and age-appropriate teaching’. It also recognises that ‘teachers may require support and training’.

We have put together a 2.5 hour RSHE Teaching Skills inset delivered by our national PSHE/RSHE adviser, Josie Rayner-Wells who will provide your staff the knowledge and confidence to teach RSHE effectively.

Why do we need an RSHE Teaching Skills inset?

The quality of RSHE provided in schools in England has been a concern for many years and numerous surveys and Ofsted reports have highlighted the importance of training for the staff delivering RSHE. Only 6% of teachers had learnt about RSHE as part of initial teacher training and less than half felt the quality of RSHE training had been ‘adequate’.

What does the RSHE Teaching Skills inset cover?

The 2.5 hour RSHE Teaching Skills inset will provide your staff with:

  • Briefing on the new guidance
  • Knowledge of evidence-based teaching in RSHE
  • The ability to create a safe, democratic learning environment
  • Confidence in age-appropriate, inclusive and effective teaching of challenging Sex Education lessons (including answering ‘tricky’ questions)
  • Strategies to assess RSHE teaching and learning.

Contact us to discuss your bespoke RSHE inset training requirements with our national PSHE/RSHE adviser, Josie Rayner-Wells.
