Achieving Value for Money: How do you address your financial planning?

Room: Jockey Room
Audience: Headteachers, Business Managers and Finance staff

Finance staff play a vital role in supporting today's education system. The challenges faced can be considerable. More than ever finance staff manage challenging budgets ensuring that resources are well managed to give every child the best possible education.

Help to address your school's financial planning with our finance in education experts Martin Oswick, Finance Team Manager and Lynden Pedley, Training Team Leader. This workshop will highlight some of the ways to take the stress out of your school budgets, benchmark finances and manage resources to ensure value for money and help with your curriculum planning. By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Identify what best value means by looking at economy, efficiency and effectiveness
  • Understand the concept of Integrated Curriculum Financial Planning (ICFP) and the purpose of balancing needs with affordability
  • Locate the DfE toolkits and review how these have been used to support school resource management
  • Understand how a Training and Peer Support program improves financial management in schools.
Is Your School Ready for Statutory RSE in September 2020?

Room: Keynote Theatre
Audience: Senior staff and PSHE leads

The PSHE lead's role is about having the vision and ambition for RSHE that will ensure it develops and constantly adapts to meet the changing needs and priorities of your pupils. Like you, we are passionate about making a difference through high-quality teaching of effective RSE.

From September 2020, all schools must be ready to meet the new Statutory Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education guidance. Hear from National RSHE expert Josie Rayner-Wells on understanding the legislation, taking a whole-school approach to embedding effective RSE within your school and identifying factors that ensure best-practice approaches to teaching RSE. By the end of this workshop participants will:

  • Understand the new legislation and what your school needs to do
  • Understand the curriculum for both Primary and Secondary phases
  • Hear what young people and teachers say about their previous RSE experiences
  • Complete a Compliance Calculator to benchmark your current provision against the new statutory requirements.
Flash Briefing: SEND in Mainstream Schools

Room: Briefing Room
Audience: Senior staff and SEND leads

Educational settings are required to meet the learning needs of every child in their school. What SEN support does an educational setting need to provide to ensure young people with SEND engage in the activities of the school alongside pupils who do not have SEND? Whose responsibility is inclusion? In this roundtable Alison Toombs, Adviser, Norfolk Virtual School for SEND, will discuss the key requirements and support available for schools.
