Developing and Leading STEM in Primary Schools Developing and leading STEM in a Primary school is a new level 3 accredited qualification which gives teachers the opportunity to explore how to inspire and engage pupils to achieve more through Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. “Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education plays a vital role in equipping youth people with the knowledge and skills needed to participate in and contribute to Society” (The Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology, 2013) The Developing and Leading STEM in a Primary School Level 3 programme has been accredited by Gateway Qualifications and will provide the knowledge for candidates to successfully incorporate these key elements of STEM. The National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) revealed that STEM education works well when; pupils engage at a young age, providing high quality enrichment and engaging activities, showing links across and between STEM subjects. The qualification will enable candidates to: Understand the importance of the STEM approach to learning in the primary phase Provide leadership in relation to STEM in a primary school Plan and set targets for STEM for a primary school Develop and manage resources effectively for STEM in a primary school Set up STEM enrichment opportunities within a primary school Manage CPD of staff delivering STEM in a primary school Each learning objective will be explored, providing candidates with a wealth of knowledge and understanding.
